Bethesda Offers Parkinson Wellness Recovery Program, PWR!Moves

Bethesda proudly announces the return of Parkinsons Wellness Recovery (PWR!) classes. Club Bethesda began offering PWR!Moves exercise classes before the beginning of the COVID pandemic. Our Wellness Director, Melissa Wentzel, recently completed her recertification, and we are happy to reintroduce the classes.

PWR!Moves is designed to help individuals living with Parkinson’s Disease to help with symptom management. The class uses exercises that target foundational skills that are shown to impact everyday mobility (posture, weight shifting, mobility, and stepping). The deterioration of these skills often leads to loss of mobility and function.

During the classes, you will use a combination of seated and standing moves and exercises that emphasize high-intensity, exaggerated movement and address postural awareness, balance, strength, flexibility, breathing, and vocal expression. The actions in the program can be practiced in multiple positions, making it more challenging to tailor the program to the individual. Vocal exercises are incorporated into the program as they are crucial to those living with Parkinson’s.

Program participants can help mitigate their symptoms and rebuild functionality through the tailored classes and by incorporating the methods into their everyday lives.

Melissa Wentzel and the Bethesda community are excited to offer this program at Club Bethesda in Willmar and New London as an additional resource to the Kandiyohi county community.

For more information or to register for the classes, please contact Club Bethesda at (320) 214-5627.
